FOR DIVERS REASONS

TO THE EDITOR OF THE AKAHOA MAIL. ~- -4 Slßj—l know it is not tbe slightest bit of good, but I yearn to growl, and' as you ■are an Englishman you will, of course, understand that feeling. In the absence of anyproper bathing place here, I am in the habit of taking my morning dip off Daly's wharf. You can imagine, then, the effect on my usually suave temperament when I find this jetty completely jammed .up with firewood and other things, so that there is scarcely room to dress or ■undress, and one has to sit, it may be, on tbe sharp edge of apiece of scantling or *» the splintedsnrfece. of a section 'of nre--wood. Sir, I don't blame the owners of this material, or the people who put it there, or object to. the fact of its being there, but why i_ there not a proper bath- ■** ing place in a town like Akaroa ? It's a disgrace to the'place that one cannot get a decent header unless one gets up in the middle of the night, and goes off either of the wharves. Cannot we all put our heads together, as well as our purses, and do something, if even only for our own advantage, to provide this mueh-deeired addition to local creature comforts. Yours, &c., CLEANLINESS.
