LE BON'S BAY.
The meeting convened by the Board of Education for the purpose of electing a new School Committee,, took place. on the 28th inst.; at 7.30 p.m. : _ Mr D. Wright, on the. motion of Mr Foster,'was ca'led to the chair. He explained that the reason of meeting was not only fo elect a Committee, , but to lay before the public a statement of accounts and proceedings of the Committee for the past year. , It was proposed by Mr Symes, and seconded by Mr Smart, that the seven retiring members present that evening be re-elected, and that Mr F. Aldridge, the absent member, there having been eight before, be the one to go out. Mr H. Barnett, jun., moved as an amendment that there be a new election to give, outsiders a chance. Mr James , Barnett seconded this proposition. The amendment was put to the meeting, three voting for it. . The motion on being put was earned by a large majority. Mr Wright then declared the following gentlemen elected. Messrs G. Hall, T. Aldridge, W. Foster, E. Fairbrass, B. Jorkensen, H. Elliott, and J. Aldridge. The chairman then read an account of the income and expenditure for the past year, in the abstract it reads :—lncome—£2l9 17s 7d. Expenditure — Salaries, £159 12s 2d; incidentals, £46 16s Id ; buildings, £9 ss; balance, £4 4s 4d; total, £219 17s 7d. Mr Wright after reading the above explained that the accounts had not been audited, but would be so at once, and till then could not be adopted. At the close of the meeting the Committee met, and re-elected Mr George Hall as chairman. Mr Wright was appointed auditor and Mr Macmillian clerk. The Committee nominated Mr Montgomery, M.H.K., and Mr J. Inglis as members of the Board of Education. PIGEON BAY. The annual meeting of the householders of the Pigeon Bay School District was held in the schoolroom, on Monday, Jan. 28, at 7.30 p.m., for the purpose of electing seven duly qualified persons to serve as members of the district School Committee for the current year. The attendance, notwithstanding the busy season, was very good. Proposed by Mr Geo. M'Kay, and seconded by Mr S. Priest, that Mr Pitcaithly take the chair.
The Chairman then read the annual school returns and financial accounts. He also gave a resume of the work done by the late School Committee during the past year. The Chairman also read a circular from the Secretary to the Board of Education, stating that the Board had received a telegram from the Government, to the effect that the Governor in Council had been pleased to order that the annual accounts of School Committees for the past yeer should be audited by qualified persons appointed by the retiring committees at least three days before the annual meeting was held. Unfortunately, the late arrival of this order made it quite impossible for the retiring Committee to comply with it at the proper time. The meeting, however, resolved to appoint two auditors forthwith. It was, therefore, proposed by Mr Budua, and seconded by Mr Smith, that Messrs D. M-Kay and F. \V. Thompson be appointed auditors. Carried.
The auditors were then directed to audit the accounts for the past year as soon as possible. A ballot was then taken for the election of the School Committee, the result of which was that Messrs Pitcaithley, Budua, Hunt, Geo. M'Kay, Scott, A. White, and S. Priest were declared duly elected.
A vote of thanks to the chairman was then proposed by Mr W. Paton, seconded by Mr Budua, and carried unanimously. A special meeting of the School Committee was then held, at which all the members were present. Proposed by 'Mr Budua, and seconded by Mr M'Kay, that Mr Pitcaithley be appointed chaijinan. Uarriud^* Mr Pitcaithley brought forward the necessity that existed for appointing a a clerk to the committee, as the keeping of the accounts and the correspondence were more than tho chairman could properly attend to.
Resolved —that the consideration of this subject be deferred for a short time. Messrs TV. Montgomery and A. Duncan were nominated to serve as members of the new Board of Education ; and, in the (•wilt of. their being unable or unwilling to serve. Messrs Holleston and Ingiis were nominated hi their stead.
