TEES UNI'KR NEW ACT. npHE Board, in pursuance of powei I X in that behalf conferred by the J Education Act, 1877 (sec. 63), herebj directs that ••> PUBLIC MEETING o: the.Householders in every School District throughout the Education District of Canterbury, be held on MONDAY the Twenty-eighth Day of January, Oik Thousand Eight Hundred and Seventyeight, at Seven o'clock in the livening for the Election in each district of sever householders (sec. 63) to form the Committee for such District, for the yeai ending with the Fourth Monday ir January in next year. ; The. place of meeting shall be th< Schoolhouse in each district which is provided with a schoolhouse, and this is to be understood to mean the main schoolhouse in any district which has more than one school. ■ In the districts in which schools are not yet built, tht places of meeting sh all? (subject to correction in a future-advertisement) be as follows :— i Barr Hill — Blacksmith's Shop, Bafr Hill. f Balcairn— ; Road' Board Office. Clareinont—Mr Mclntosh's House. Dunsandel—-The Hal!, Dunsandel. Invell—The Church, Invcll. Malvern South—'South Malvern Road Board Office. Otaio Upper—Mr Agnew's House. The following are extracts from the Education Act, 1877, bearing upon the election of Committees; — " ' Householder' means evory adult male or female person, who as owner, or tenant, lessee, or occupier, occupies, uses, or resides in any dwelling house, shop, warehouse, or other building in any district, or every parent or • guardian who is liable to maintain, or has the actual custody of, any child," (Section 4.) " No bankrupt who lias not obtained his final order of discharge, no person attainted of treason, or convicted of felony, or perjury, or any infamous crime, no person of unsound mind, and no person not qualified as herein required, shall be capable of being or continuing a member of any Committee." (Section 59.) "At such meeting [for election of Committee] a chairman shall be chosen, and the Committee for the preceding year shall give a full report of its proceedings, and thereupon the electors present shall proceed to elect by ballot, as hereinafter provided, a new Committee for the then current *" year of seven persons qualified as. prescribed by the fifty-eighth section of this Act, and may reelect all or any of the persons going out of office to be members of such new Committee." (Section 64. "At every meeting convened and held, for the election of a Committee, the Chairman having a deliberative vote shall also have a casting vote. (Section 64.) " At every election for a School Committee every voter shall be entitled to a number of votes equal to the number ot the Committee to be elected, and may give all such votes to one candidate, or may distribute them among the candidates, as he thinks fit." I HEREBY give notice, that the VALUATION LIST for 1878 will be OPEN FOR INSPECTION at Forbes' store, Tai Tapu, from January 15th to to the 81st instant, and from the latter date to February 15th, at Reynolds' store, Little River. All objections thereto must be left at the Road Board office, addressed to the Assessment Court, and a copy of such objection must be left at the office, addressed to the Chairman of the Board, not Jess than seven clear days before the sitting of the said court, due notice of which will be given.
