AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD BOARD.
A special meeting of this Board was held'in the office on Saturda}', the 12th instant, at 2 p.m. The members of the Board present were Messrs H. Piper (in the chair), F. W, Williams, S. Curry, and B. Shadbolt. The minutes of the sth inst. were read and confirmed. wobsley's road. Mr Worsley interviewed the Board in regard to the track off Long Bay road passing through Mr Morgan's land to his property. The Board informed Mr Worsley :hat Mr Morgan did not object to the road |passing through his land, if put in the proper place, and if carried out under the Board s instructions. The Board would pay half the cost of forming the road, when pegged out, if Mr Worsley would pay the other half. Mr Worsley agreed to do so, and was requested to send his acceptance of the Board's terms in writing. LONG BAY ROAD. Mr Eugene Lelievre saw the Board in reference to the Board's threat to put the Long Bay road diversion through his land, in terms o£ the '* Public Works' Act 1876," in the event of the Board and himself not coming to terms. About 1| acres would be required for the road, and he did not think £_0 per acre too much. Mr Shadbolt suggested £25 as a fair compensation, in one lump sum. The Chairman said the Board would agree to give £15 per acre all round. It was ultimately arranged that the Board should pay Mr Lelievre £15 per acre for the land required for the road, and the piece cut off and rendered useless to him, subject to his being able to purchase land off Mr Inman, or in the event of his not being able to do so, £25 for the land actually required for the road, the Board agreeing to fence both sides.
A letter was read from Mr Jule Lelievre, offering to take £10 compensation for diversion o_ Long Bay road through his property, the old road given in, and the Board fencing the Gough's Bay side of the line. The Board were quite unanimous as regards the not giving up of the old road, and as Mr Leiievre's letter, was not quite clear, he was requested to write again, stating his offer more clearly, and leaving the old road out of the question. LE BON'S BAY ROAD. Mr B. Mora waited upon the Board in regard to the width of the Le Bon's Bay road between two of his sections in German Bay. He stated that at one point the road encroached on bis section to the extent of 70 links, and he wanted to know if the road was made a chain wide where was he to got his land, and at the same time be threatened to restrain the Board or their workmen from making the road, of proper width, and if it was done he would fence, it across. The Board warned Mr Mora of the legal consequences beincurred should he take any such action as he indicated, and pointed out to him the clause., of the l - Public Works Act" that he would infringe. The Board were quite firm that the road be made a chain wide, as shewn in the survey maps.

BOUNDARIES OF DISTRICTS. A long discussion took place in regard to the boundaries of the district, and the correspondence,.. with the Little River Road District was read on the subject. It appears that previous Boards had made some general arrangement with the Little River Board that the water-shed was to be-the boundary between the two districts. Nothing formal had ever beeii done in regard to the severance of that part of the district in Little River beyond Barry's Bay Pass. Although the late Superintendent had promised to have the necessary legal steps taken in the matter, nothing had been done. The Little River Board had been collecting the rates for the past few years, but the question could be raised at any time by any ratepayer as to their right to do so. The Board, under the whole circumstances of the case, resolved to adhere to the proper boundaries of their district as laid down in the 28th section of the 2nd schedule of the Canterbury Roads Ordinance, and the valuer was instructed to insert all properties on the new assessment roll in terms of the Board's resolution. FOOTWAY. The tender of Mr • Maltby, to construct 3 \ chains of footway, of the same pattern as that laid down by the Borough Council round Waeckerle's corner, for £11, was accepted. PAYMENTS. The following accounts were passed for payment, viz.:— £ s. d. J. B. Sheath, pipes ... 74 15 8 Letterbox ... ... 10 0 Peter Shadbolt ... 2 16 0 11. Jordan 3 3 0 Total £81 14 8 ADJOURNMENT. On the motion of Mr Shadbolt, the Board then adjourned till Saturday, 19th inst., at 2 p.m.
