AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD BOARD.
Saturday, Jan. 5. Present: —Messrs Piper (chairman pro tern), Curry, Williams, and Dttxbury. This being the first meeting of the Board after the usual annual election, the appointment of a chairman for the ensuing yenr was proceeded with,, Mr Williams proposed, seconded by Mr Carry, that Mr Piper be re-elected chairman. The motion being carried, and the gentleman in question having agreed to act in the capacity required, the Board proceeded to entertain the business before them. TENDERS FOB GRASS SEED CUTTING. Three tenders, emanating from L. G-
Shadbolt and Bobert King, for grass seed cutting, were thrown out as informal, owing to their not being endorsed as required by the terms of tlie printed notice issued by the Board. CORRESPONDENCE. Pawson's Valley Rbad. From the Secretary "of"Public Works, Wellington, stating that, in the matter of Pawson's Valley road, the Aot of 1876, referring to the stoppage of roads, must be strictly carried out, and all necessary requirements fulfilled. In the absence of Mr B. Shadbolt, the matter was ordered to stand over till the next meeting. Long Bay Road. From Mr Eugene Lelievre, asking £20 per acre for that portion of his land through which the above line of road passes. It was unanimously agreed that the price asked was in excess of the actual value, and on the motion of Mr Williams, seconded by Mr Duxbury, it was resolved that the A<st be put in force. Lltlwgraphed Maps. From the Manager of the Lyttelton Times, informing the Board that arrangements had been made for obtaining and lithographing maps of the various Road Board Districts, and soliciting the patronage of the Board. The clerk was instructed to write and ask the cost of the article in question. Valuation. From Mr A. I. M'Gregor, enclosing declaration as valuer. A question here arose as to the definition of the boundaries of the Akaroa and Wainui and the Little River Road Districts, with a view to a more complete and correct valuation. After considerable discussion, the matter was deferred to enable the, clerk to turn up certain correspondence. At the instance of the valuer, the office maps were ordered to be renewed. Mount Bossu and Lake Forsyth Road. From the Clerk to the Little River Road [ Board, asking for information with regard to the disposition of the special grant for the above road, as repeated requests to the Government to enlighten them on the subject had been without success ; also, stating their willingness to assist the Akaroa and Wainui Road Board in any way possible. It was resolved to reply to the letter in the following terms: —"The Board has the honour to state that it is their intention to make a track from Mount Bossu road along a line, by the ridge of the hills to the foot of Lake Forsyth, which has already been pegged off by a Government Surveyor, as an outlet to the Christchurch road for people residing in Wainui, the South Akaroa Head, and Peraki. The Government have already stated (vide correspondence) that the money cannot be diverted. We assume that about two miles of the first portion of the line is in the Akaroa and Wainui district," &c, &c. From the Chairman of the County Council, requesting guarantee for payment of making dog collars, the fees for which accrue to the Board. Long Bay Road. From Messrs Woodill and Co., requesting compensation on their contract for the ■Long Bay road, the work having been found to be more expensive owing to extra rock blasting and width in the solid. The Board resolved that, in justice to tenderers generally, they could not entertain the request. PIiOGRESS PAYMENTS. In the ease of W. Kenny's application for a progress payment on his contract, the Board granted the amount asked for, but resolved that for the future all siii'h applications must be given notice of to the engineer not less than a week before their presentation, REMOVAL OF SURVEY PEGS. ' The engineer having made a statement as to the practice prevailing of . survey pegs being shifted, it was agreed to carry out to the letter the powers given to the Board in sections 75. 76. 77, part IV, of Public Works Act, 1876, by which a fine of £50 will be inflicted. waeckerle's corner. Tenders were ordered to be called for the formation of the footpath at this place. TENDERS. Onuku Road. — J. Vangioni, £2 2s per chain, £1 each per culvert, four months — £163 16s (accepted). Woodill and Co., £3125 , per chain, £8 each fW three cul verts,- five months—£3o4 16s. Le Boris Road Continuation, —T. Johnson's tender accepted for 10 chains at £1 5s per chain. A special meeting was appointed for Saturday, 12th inst. The Board then adjourned.
