A DIRGE FOR BRIGHAM YOUNG.
o (Dunedin Saturday Advertiser.) Weep for him, wail for him, widows of Utah, Flooding the Salt Lake with tears that ye shed ; Fighting the groper and wild barracouta— The Prophet has vanished, the Patriarch's dead. Over the mound where our Brigham is sleeping, Sorrowful dirges are chanted and sung ; Widows are sobbing and orphans are weeping, The mothers of Utah are mourning their Young.
Silent, 0 saints, be the songs of your daughters, Husbandless now they may wander unsealed* ; Peaceful, 0 Lake, be the roar of thy waters, Unboiled be the kettle, untilled be the field ; The sun of our glory and greatness is banished, The waspish and merciless phantom has stung, The leader of Zion ! our Brigham has ; vanished, The mothers of Utah are mourning their Young. Sadly and slowly the widows are moaning, Loudly the orphans are roaring for jam ! Hannah is whining, and Judith, is groaning, And Rachel is kissing her fatherless lamb ; Abigail's sad, and Rebecca is lonely, Ruth is in tears, from her tender heait wrung, Whilst Sarah sighs " Brigham dear, I've loved thee only"— The Widows of Utah are mourning their Young.
Mourn for the father of Utah—Hsation, Calmly he sleeps 'mong the sanctified urns, Versed in humanity's multiplication, A Profit that always brought in quick returns. Weep for him, wail tor him, mothers and maidens, Wag in despair every aspen-leaf tongue; . Blending their voices in musical ca- . dence. The mothers of Utah are mourning their Young. °Beside his usual quantity of wives, several maidens were sealed to the Prophet. ; •'■••':.•'■•-
