FROM THE LYTTELTON TIMES. Christchurch, Friday Evening. GRAIN AND PRODUCE. Flour.—We quote £15 to £1G for good brands. Potatoes. —In small lots can be got at 20s. ' Dairy Produce is quiet. Butter, new oka ■to Gd. Cheese is in better demand at 5d to skl. Hams and bauon, in cloth, 7d to -Bd. STOCK AND STATEONS. gjr EE p.—Extra prim 3 cross-breds, shorn, brought 20s ; good do, 17s Gd ; second do, from 9s to lls 6d. Several good quality lots of merino wethers, in the wool, realised-lls. We quote 3d per lb as an average for mutton in the wool, and 1-Jd per lb shorn. Fat lambs, best lots, brought from 10s Gd to 12s; fair to medium quality, from 6s 9d to Bs. Cattle. —The cattle penned comprised several prime lots of beef, for which description the biddings were dull, which resulted in the owners withdrawing some of the best lots submitted. We quote 27s Gd per lOOlba as an average for fat beef. The usual description of stores came forward, but the owners, not caring to part for the small price offered, the bulk was withdrawn.
Messrs H. Matson ami Co. report for the week ending Thursday, November 15, as follows:—At the Canterbury Saleyards on Wednesday lr.st, 622 head or! cattle, "9584 sheep, and 143 pigs, comprised tlie entry to hand foi the week. In cattle the supply far exceeded the demand. Our entries for the day comprised 513 head of cattle, 4384 sheep, and 125 pigs. In fat cattle, we sold 15 steers at £9 15s to £10 12s Gd,.16 at £8 15s, £9 10s to £10 15s ; 12 at £7 15s and £9 10s per head ; 8 at £9 10s to £11, and 1 at £12; several light weights-, £G 15s, £7 10s to £8. _ In stores we disposed of 238 head at various values, say, at a reduction of about _10s per head upon last market rates, turning out the balance unsold. In sheep we sold 201 shorn'2-tooth at Gs ; 91 do at 7s 9d and 8s ; 133 merino wethers, in wool, at 11s; 288 do at 11s; 22 cross-breds at 1-itf Gd ; 223 merino ewes, with lambs, at 5s 9d; 129 merino wethers at 6s ; 160 shorn cross-breds at 10s ; 470 do at 8s 6d to 9s ; 652 shorn 2-tooth, inferior, at 5s Id to 5s 6d, 264 2-tooth at Gs 6d, 170 do at 5s 9d to 9s Gd, 9;) ewes and lambs at 9.-) 3d, 127 merino wethers at Bs, 91 hoggets at ■8s 9d, 78 merino wethers, in wool, at 12s 85 cross-breds at 15s 6d, 3 at 6s, 3S crossbreds ewes at ( Js 3d, 74 do at 6s Gd, 58 ewes at 7s, 211 do at 14s. 116 cross-breds at 9s 9d. 84 at 9s 6d, 350 do and sundry lines at current rates. In lambs we sold munorous entries at from 5s Gd, Gs Gd, 7s Gd, 9h, to 12s each. In pigs we clearer! out our entry of 125, at from 5s Gd to 7s Gd. 12s, 15s, 18s, 255, to 30s each. Wool, Sheepskins, Hides, Tat low, &c.—At our pale on Thimuiay. 2022 woolly skins 1666 pelts, 854 lamb-!, 216 hides, and 180. bags of rough fat, as also several tins and casks of tallow, comprised the entry, for all of which there was good competition, and fair values obtained. Best cross r breds, 6s, 6s Gd, 7s to 7s 5d ; second, ss, 5s 6d,to 5s 10d ; merino, 5?, 5s Qd, 5s Bd, to 6s each; ordinary, 3s lid, 4s 6d. to 4s lid each ; country skins, 3s Gd, SsGd.to Gs Gd, and Is 10, 2s Gd, to os each ; pelts, at 3d each ; lamb skins, Is to Is Gd each ; hides, salted, 4-|d per lb ; green 3fd per lb ; calf, (>\d per lb ; rough fat, 2£d, 2£d. 2jd, 2fd, to 3d per lb. Wool is now coming , forward freely, and the first public sale for the season is fixed for Tuesday, November 27 next, when a considerable quantity will be catalogued. Outside we have sold a line of 1000 merinos woolly skins at 6s each. Country stock Markets.—At the Papanui monthly sale on Monday, 35i head of cattle, 2450 sheep were penned, of which we sold 300 head of cuttle and 1900 sheep at fair market values. On Saturday last we held our annual sale of pedigree stock at the A. and P. yards, when we sold a large number of pedigree bulls, pure Lincoln sheep. &c, &c. Canterbury Horse Market : At Tattersall's, on Saturday last, 123 horses were catalogued, of which we disposed of a considerable number at capital values. Draught stock, £45, £55, £63, and a superior mare at lOOgs; ordinary draught, £25 to £35 ; carriage pairs, at GOgs to 70gs per pair ; hacks and buggy horses, £25, £28, to £33, and for ordinary, £12, £15, and £18; weeds, £6, £8, to £10. Unbroken stock sold very well. There is a capital demand for really good unbroken stock ; a consignment of such would rncot with a ready market.
