STOCK AND STATIONS.

At the Saleyards on Wednesday, 5449 sheep, and 501 head of cattle came to hand, the,majority of the fat sheep offered being shorn, which realised as follow : — Prime quality cross-breds, lis Gd ; good <10, lis and 10a 6d ; second quality, 8s 6d ; merino (shorn) best lots 6s 3d and 6s; good do, 5s 6d ; prime cross-breds (in the •wool), 16s 6d and 16 3d ; good, from 15s 3d to 15s 9d, second quality, 13s 6d ; good quality merinos (in the wool), lis 3d.

We quote as an average for fat mutton (shorn), lfd per lb : in "the wool, 3d per lb. Fat Lamb.—Best, quality, 10s ; good do, 8a *, middling, from 5s 6d to 6s 6d. Several lots of cross-breds ewes with lambs at foot, sold at from 9s9dto 14s, according to quality. Cattle. —The cattle yarded consisted of several good lines of quiet run stores, together with a s.nall proportion of fair and good-quality beef, which realised 30s per 1001b. Messrs H. Matson and Co. report on the livestock market, &c, for the week ending Thursday, October 25, 1877, as fol]__sol OWß: head cattle, 5449 sheep, and 29 pigs comprised the entry for the day. Sheep sold irregularly, in some cases at an advance of '2s per head on last week's rates. In cattle biddings came freely, and the prices obtain disclosed a reduction in values of say 10s per head. Our entries for the day comprised 383 head of cattle, 2415 sheep. In Cattle, we cleared out all our entries at for fat cattle, £10, £10 10s, to £11 15s, .and for single beasts up to £13 17s 6d per head ; light weights, 17 15s £8 10s to £9 : stores in large lines at £3 17s 6d, £4 10s £5. £5 10s, to £6 10s, £7 ss. to £8 2s 6d per bead ; milch -cows and springers at £7 10s, to £11 per head. In Sheep, our principal sales were 429 merino wethers in wool, at lOw 6d ; 342 shorn do, at Gs to 6s 3d ; 181 cross-breds at lis ; 156 ewes and lambs, at lis 3d ; 172 shorn cross-breds, at lis6d ; 228 do, atlls and lis 3d ; 197 do, at 8s per head ; 146 merino wethers, at 8s 9d ; and sundry lines at market values. Fat lambs ranged from 5s 6d, 6s 6d to 12s per head. Wool, Sheeptkins, Hides, &c— On Thursday last at our usual weekly sales, 2829 sheepskins, 200 pelts, 200 lambskins,-81 bags of rough fat, and several casks and tins of tallow, and 75 hides were catalogued and sold. Sheepskins to hand were very fine, but to effect sales, a slight concess ion in price had to be submitted to ; best cross-breds 5s lOd, 6s, Gs Gd, Ga 10d ; best merinos, 5s 6d, 5s lOd, Gs 6a 2dto_6ssl each; Fecond quality in proportion. Country skins from 2s Gd, 4s Gd, to Gs Gd ; pelts 3d each ; lamb skins, Id, lOd, Is Id ; salted hides, 4|d per lb ; green, 3Jd per lb ; calf, 6£d ; rough fat. 2d, 2-j-d, 2_d, 2§-d„ 2fd, and 3d per lb ; inferior cask tallow, discoloured, at 24s per cwt. Canterbury Horse Market.—At Tattersail's on Saturday last 118 horses were catalogued, of which we disposed of a fair proportion at good values—Best draught £45, £55, £63; to £(17 per head; light hacks and harness horses at £12, £18, £25, to £33, up to £38 per head ; un • broken stock up to £4510s per head.
