SCHISM.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE AKABOA MAIL. Sir.—The appearance in the supplement of your paper of the article headed, " A Clergyman on the Bible," is, I should imagine, as little calculated to ade , to its popularity as the ribald verses (Church Ilules) which precede it. The Press, we know, is a great agent for good and evil, and surely it-were better not to suggest scepticism on the ipse dixil o£ an obscure Melbourne clergyman, who might have remembered that an old divine has said, "If a man is an infidel himself, at least let him, in courtesy to the faith of others, know when to hold his tongue ;" and in the interests of the young and careless, amongst us especially, such articles ought j not to go forth, against that great sheet anchor which alone holds us to anything good or worthy in this life. We need not to be reminded, in Akaroa of all places, that there is unhappily many a black sheep in the flock; and, perhaps, this particular Melbourne one may, in lieu of a better hope, feel some false comfort in that supreme hour, which must come to us all, in his disbelief in eternal punishment. I am, Sir, Yours respectfully, MATERFAMILIAS.
