At the saleyards on Wednesday 6248 sheep and 473 head of cattle were yarded. A line of prime cross-breds, shorn, realised lls per head ; do, in the wool, reached as hit&i as 19s 6d each ; good quality do sold '-.jlKtTrnm 15s to 16s 6d. Outside we have sold 60 prime heavy weight oxen, from the Totara station, at £16 per head ; also, 120 stores, from southwards, at market values ; In sheep our principal sales were—so orossbreds, at 17s 6d ; 104 do. at 15s, 15s 6d to 16s 6d ; 647 merinos, at 10s 6d, 10s 9d, lie, to.lls 3d per head; 44 nti9s6d; 143 merinos,at 10s 6d; 123 crossbreds, at 13s ; 410 hoggetts, at 10s ; 100 do. at 10s ; 202 merino wethers, at 11s 6d;

Fat-lambs sold from 6s 6d, 12s and 13s, whilst some scrubbers sent forward realised from' Is upwards, owners evidently not being aware of the fact that unless their lambs are prime fat they are valueless to the trade. The first shorn sheep of the season came forward, but met with a bad market, buyers being shy of operating. Country Sales*. At the Ashbnrton monthly sale on Thursday last, we had a fair entry; sales made were satisfactory, good values being obtained. Wool, Sheepskins, Hiies, and Tallow—Our catalogue on Thursday last comprised 2892 sheepskins, 110 hides, and 84 bags of rough fat. The bulk of the skins were of best quality, and sold at for cross-breds 6s, 6s 6d, to 6s 9d ; second, ss, 5s 3d, to 5s 10d each. Best merinos, 5s 6d, 5s 9d, 6«, to 6s\2d ; second, 4s 6d to sfl ; country skins at good values, according to quality. Salted hides, well preserved, 4£d to 4£d per lb ; green do, at 3§d perlb ; calf at 6£d per lb ; rough fat, at 2|d per lb. Wool, a few small consignments to hand, and we have advices of several early clips on the way to market. The opening sale of the season will take place during the first or second week in November. Tatteksall's—On Saturday, 104 horses were catalogued, including some very superior draught stock, of which we disposed of a fair proportion at from £40, £50, to £60 each : hackneys and harness horses sold very well -indeed ; a strong demand has sprung up for these, and we could place a large number at good values. Quotations —Best draught, £55 to

£65, up to £70 ; medium do, £40, £45, to £50; ordinary to inferior, £20. to £35; harness horses and good hacks, £25 to £35 ; ordinary, £15 to £20 ; inferior descriptions, nominal. During the <veek we have disposed of a large number of all descriptions by private sale, quite up to quotations. Land—ln land we have held several public 6ales without doing any owners' ideas of values being too high to allow of transactions to take place. . .
