POLITICAL TELEGRAM

(from our special corresfondknt.) Wellington, 8.30, October 4. It is understood hero that Ballance, Bryce, Sharp, and Curtis, have left the Government ranks, and joined the Opposition. Johnston and Baigent, if not gone over yet, are considered as certain to join the Opposition. There is a settled conviction that the Government must resign. The end seems very near-; no leader of the Opposition has been chosen, or talked of among the members. All that appeared in the Christchnrch papers on this subject were canards.
