INTERPROVINCIAL TELEGRAMS.

(From the Press Agency.) Napier, September 25. At the Synod this afternoon the Rev. E. 0. Stuart was unanimously nominated to the Bishopric of Waiapu. Wellington, September 25. The Resident Magistrate has given judgement in a disputed case arising

under the Marriage Act, 1858. Plaintiff applied for a. marriage license, and wished to give 14 days' notice, which would enablehim to obtain a license for ss. Being eligible to take out an immediate license, the Registrar demanded a fee of 20s. The plaintiff paid under protest and sued to recover the remaining 15s. The Magistrate, after a good deal of consideration, held that the Registrar was right in demanding a 20s. fee, and that the ss. fee was payable only where the party was an infant, and his case came under the seventh section of the Marriage Act. Judgement therefore was given for defendant with costs. The result of the Intercolonial rifle match at Creedmoor should read— American, 3334 ; British, 3342. Dr. Lemon has just received a telegram from Batavia, stating that the cable is now (yesterday) clear of traffic.
