Auckland September 21. The building burned yesterday was insured for £150 in the Imperial.? All the lunatics who escaped during the fire at the Asylum have been recovered.
Dunedin, September 21
A raid has been made upon the sly grog sellers, and half-a-dozen were prosecuted and found guilty to-day. The plan of the informer a Christchurch man named George Matthews, was to take up his residence at each house for a few days, with a confederate to corroborate his evidence.
Wellington, September 22,
There was a sharp shock of earthquake here at 4.40 o'clock this afternoon.
Mrs Mary Ann Truman and her daughter Mary Leonard Mudgwary were brought up at the Resident Magistrate's Court to-day, charged with child murder. A great deal of evidence Avas taken. The Court was crowded the whole time. A chemist desposed to the girl's eldest sister asking him for medicine to procure abortion for her sister, who she said had been outraged. He refused* Another sister bought some quicklime from him, to cover a dog she said. He forgot to tell her to put water upon it, hence the body was well preserved when found in Trueman's sßed. The mother and daughter were committed ior trial. The Telegraph Department have received a communication from Adelaide to the effect that the Port Darwin line is interrupted beyond Ballan, but that parties have been sent out to repair to.

Mr Wakefield, M.H.U., was burnt in effigy last night, in consequence of his remarks with reference to the people of this township. Over 500 people were present at the indignation meeting.
