AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD BOARD

Saturday, September 22,

Present: —Messrs. Piper (Chairman) Lelievre, Williams, Shadbolt, Duxbury. CORRESPONDENCE. From Mr Montgomery re Special Grants. From J. Glynan, with reference to the Onuku road encroaching on his property. The consideration of this matter was doferred until next meeting A petition was received from Mr Henry Aylmer and others, praying the board that the main road from Akaroa through their district be widened sufficiently to allow traffic of wheeled vehicles.

It was resolved to defer this matter until the next meeting.

From Messrs. Sigley and Dixon, requesting payment of amount'detained as surety, being the balance of their account for protective works in Barry's Bay, and asking- interest on the same.

Proposed by Mr. Shadbolt, seconded by Mr Duxbury, that the account be passed for payment on tho day mentioned, but that the Board do not entertain the claim for interest.

From Bank of New Zealand, Christchurch, offering 4 per cent, on the Board's current account, and, on fixed deposits, 5 per cent, for six months, 5£ for twelve months. From Miss Brittan, asking for the formation of a fence between the Magazine Reserve, on which the Road Board office stands, and her section, and offering to pay her share towards the same. Proposed by Mr. Lelievre, seconded by Mr Shadbolt, that the fence be made as requested. From W. Kenny, explaining the cause of delay in the completion of his contract. The Board accepted the explanation. From C. Haylpck re Flea Bay and the Heads track. The clerk was instructed to write to the Chief Surveyor, requesting that a line be surveyed. Erom E. H. Fenton, C.E., stating that in accordance with instructions he had forwarded tracings of the Long Bay track to Mr Innian, and the Chief Surveyor. From J. F. Roberts, drawing attention to the bad state of the approach to Checkley's Hill road from the Upper Cemetery road. A number of letters, and two memorials, were received relating to the Mount Bossu road. It was resolved to forward the whole correspondence to Mr Montgomery, to be laid before the Government. From C. McDonald, with reference to the extension of the Wainui Road. TENDERS. H. Edmundson, tender for the Cemetery road, at £2 3s. 3d. per chain, was accepted. J. Woodill's tender of £252 was accepted for the Long Bay road. EATES. It was resolved that a rate of 9d. in the .£ on rateable property be levied for the current year. •
