The " previous question" has been moved by, a Government supporter. If carried, the question of appointing a "committee of enquiry with native land transactions in Hawke's Bay will be shelved. Government "will probably haw a majority of four or five on the divieion. Cox's statement made torday cleared Grey from the charge brought against him by Ormond respecting the partnership in the company to acquire Native land &t Taupo. The Govern-
ment party and the Opposition are about pqnnl in numbers. There is a rumour of a vote of want of confidence, but nothing has been decided on.

Samuel Needh;iiri, well-to-do citizen, having considerable interests in large business firms here, was brought up this morning charged with attempting to commit rape on one of his daughters, about 13 years of age. Remanded till to-morrow.
Dunedin, September 10
George Proudfoot's case still before the Police Court, creating considerable notoriety here. Dr Murphy admitted offering £200 under instructions from Mr McKay, Mr D. Proudfoot's partner, as hush money, after prosecution had been commenced.
