Auckland, September 4. Morris Hyman, partner in a wholesale business firm, was remanded on a charge of forging a name to eight tranfers of shares.
Napier, September 4,
Messrs Cable and Drunmiond's station, at Wairoa, has been sold to Mr George G. Stead of Christchurch. It consists of 9000 acres freehold, and 14 000,le'asehold, and includes 8000 sheep, some horses and cattle.
Oamaru, September 3
At the R.M. Court John Chalker was convicted of having in his possession a still and other apparatus suitable for distilling purposes, and was sentenced to eight months' imprisonment.
Auckland September 4,
Loud complaints are being made in all country districts of injury being caused by sparrows and pheasants. All the young cocks are being destroyed. Potatoes are being pecked up by pheasants, and there are places where large fields of clover which had been sown have not come up, all the seed having been eaten by the sparrows.
The firebelis have just rung out an alarm, and the fire Brigade has turnad out., The;, fire appears to be, jn the direction of Mechanics' Bay or Parnell September, 5. The Theatre Royal was sold to day to Mr De Lias for £7050. The fire last night proved to be at the boiler and fitting-premises'of Eraser and Tinne, of the Phoenix Foundry, Mechaniss' Bay. The flames were extinguished before thay had got much bold. The damage,amounts to £40 or £50. / .Nkw 5. It Is repotted .-that-wreckage is lying on the coast between Hawera and Opunake.
