CLERGYMAN'S STIPEND.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE AKAROA MAIL. Sir, —If Mr H., or any other busybody the author of a letter appearing in your last issue, signed " Churchman," reflecting on the late churchwardens, Avill call upon me, and show conclusive grounds for fixing the " moral responsibility " upon the late officers of paying present stipend arrears, I think I can promise him that any proposal, tending to tho discharge of these liabilities, will meet with the ready assistance of the accused. At the same time, in justice to the late wardens, it is but fair to state that the Incumbent's stipend had been punctually paid to the end of the quarter, previous to the resignations being sent in. The tone of " Churchman's" contribution is not pleasant, and, moreover, inconsistent Avith truth. In letters of an abusive character, the proper name of the author should be affixed. The shelter of an assumed signature does not elevate one's opinion of the writer, or his production. LATE PARISH CHURCHWARDEN, ST. PETER'S AKAROA.
