OKAIN'S BAY ROAD BOARD.
—. — ; » — TO THE EDITOR OF THE AKAROA MAIL. ' . Sib, —Tlie Okains Bay Road Board some few weeks ago, called foi tenders for a mile and a half of shingling to be done on the road in Little Akaloa flat. The tenders were given in, in the usual way, ours being 4s 9d per yard, and that of A. White and Co., 3s 5d per yard. We now hear that the work in question has been Jet to a Mr. Pawson, a son in law of the Chairman, at 5s per yard. We think it but fair to ourselves and others who go and spend time and money tendering for works, that the Boatfd should explain why this contract has been let at Is 7d per yard in advance of the lowest tender. Perhaps this sort of thing has, something to do with the statements Of Mr. Barker the Chairman at the Conference, held in Christchurch, that his Board wanted to have nothing to do with the Plains. A little wholesome supervision by a County Council is certainly wanted to correct the vagaries of Boad Boards like the Okains, and may, account for its Chairman's horror of alleitraneous assistance in tbe management of its business.
