William Gamble was crushed to death at Tairua by a boulder rolling down the hill on to him. , Mr. Edwin Hesketh was fined to-day at the Police Court for neglecting to register one of his children within the time required by the Act. The sham fight last night by the Volunteers was a great success. The weather kept fine, and there were about 5000 spectators. The attacking and defence parties performed their parts splendidly, and seemed to act as if the fighting was real. This afternoon an Auckland Pastbra. and Agricultural Association was formed Dr. Campbell was elected President, Mr James Dalworth Vice-President and Mr Alfred Buckland Treasurer. A strong Committee of Management was chosen, and the Association is likely to be successful. Kumara, July 26. A donation of £50 was made to the Dunedin Hospital, through Mr. Strode, by the widowed mother of a young Englishman who died in the institution, in recognition of the care and attention bestowed on him. There are over 70 applicants for the appointment of ranger of Educational Reserves. Applications for Union shares are still flowing in numerously. Another attempt is being made to raise the steamer Express at Riverton.
