MEETING AT FRENCH FARM.
Owing to the inclemency of the weather, there was but a small attendance at thiß meeting. '. Mr. Dicken, upon taking the chaw, gatj. by Stating the reasons for which the •mteSing had been adjourned. He had hoped that member of the Road Boards interested in the question would haveintended, to give their reasons for or against the formation of the proposed new Road Board District. He had also desired to obfeiin statistics, bpt'h of'the - acreage, and revenue of the. new district; and an addition to the tracing, Whicirthey had:already purchased. He was" how 'able to give .these statistics.,- The-proposed boundary for the new district w.is Hhiollows :—From the foot of Lake .Forsyth along its S. E. shore to its junction "villi the Kakekikawai River; following that river, up to its junctiyn with the river Okuta, thence along that.river to the S.E. comer .of section 1901)6. . Aiong the boundary of that section to its easternmost .corner;« thence in a straight line to the N- W. corner of section 21421, folio;ving the north and east boundaries oL : that section to its junction with sections 20212. From tins point along the roiJ to its junction with the Christchurch road, and along Jthat road to the Akaroa Harbour, at the junction of the-.Christ-church road with the Wainui road ; thence by the harbour and the ocean to the starting point. Mr Dicken stated that the total acreage of this district, exclusive of Crown lands, was 25.529 acres. It was assessed at £4,210,' and. the number of ratepayers was 36 To form this district a certain amount of land 'inuft be >■ taken from the Little River Road-Board. The amount of freehold proposed l to. be taken from Little River was 16,500 acres. It was-assessed at £2,700, and ho (Mr Dicken) would to point out that upon this piece of country the Little River Road Board's expenditure had amounted to no more than koU, if indeed so much. Mr McKay was able to confirm the Chairman in his remark about the .money expended by the Little River Road Board on the piece of land proposed to ts» t-ien from that district. It was £26, He jvas of opinion that the Akaroa and Wamui Road Board did not take the same intercut in the Wainui roads as a Wainui Road Board would. Nothing could be worse than some parts of the Wainui roads. He believed that the expenses of the new Board would be no greater than their resources from land sales and rates would be able to meet, and lie would propose— " That a new district be formed, with the boundary, as described by the Chairman. Mr Hunter seconded the motion, in the present state of things the roads were mostly through private property, allowed by the owners' good nature. This was carried unanimously. Mr Hunt proposed—" That a petition be drawn up and signatures,obtained, which should be placed in the hands of tha members." Mr Bates seconded it, making the usual comments on the bad state of the roads. The motion Avas carried unanimously. Mr HuNrER proposed—"That a committee, consisting of Messrs Dicken, Bell, Anson, and Reid, be formed for the collection of signatures." . The motion was seconded by Mr Knight, and after making a few remarks on the subject of roads mooted at the last meeting, the motion was carried, A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the proceedings.
