COMMERCIAL.
FROM THE LYTTELTON TIMES. Christchurch, Friday Evening. GRAIN AND PRODUCE. The market for the week has been rather languid, very little new business being done with producers, except in potatoes. Deliveries on account of previous contracts would, doubtless, have been larger, but for the inclement weather. The Margaret Galbraitb and Piako have sailed with large cargoes of wheat for London, while the shipments of produce coastwise have been on a considerable scale. Wheat. —There are fewer buyers for sprouted, as Colonial markets seem unable to work it off in any quantity, and the advanced season at which future shipments would arrive in England, make buyers cautious of entering upon new transactions. We quote for the best sound wheat, 6s 6d ; sprouted 3s to 3s 9d. Barley.—The Australian market gives little encouragement in that direction. Inferior sorts are kept from falling lower in this market by the short supply of oats. Prices range from 2s Gd to 3s for feed ; best malting. 4s 6d. Oats.—Many farmers are holding back in anticipation of higher rates, which gives the market at' present a somewhat _ bare appearance. Feed are worth 3s ; milling command 3s 2d. Potatoes are worth 455. The fire in Lyttelton destroyed a large quantity ready for shipment. ]T l qur.—There has been a good business in flour, and the millers are still unable to overtake the orders in hand. Guaranteed parcels are quoted at £16 and £17. Dairy Produce is unchanged. Butter and cheese 9d and 5MHams and Bacon.—The factories are now sending out portions of their new cure, and are asking 7d to Bd—in cloth.
