AKAROA RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Tuesday, May 29, 1877. (Before Justin Aylmer, E.-sq., 8.M.) DRUNK AND DISOKDKHLY.

,- David Stewart was charged with this of£ence,,and also of using.abusivelanguage: to the arresting.constable.; If let oft" he promised to join the Good Templars. His Worship said if ihe came up again he wWd be tried under the ] Vagrant Act; this time he would inflict a fine of 405., or a week's imprisonmßnt. The fino was paid. CATTLE TRESPASS.

The following persons were charged with allowing dattle to wander on the public highways. William Birdling, allowing four horses to stray in Barry's Bay. Fined ss. and costs. W. Blytham, allowing one cow to be at large in Barry's Bay ; fined ss. and costs- J. Castle, allowing two cows to wander at Head of the Bay ; fined ss. and costs. T. W. Barker, allowing one cow to wander at Head of the Bay ;: fined ss. and costs. D. Le Cornpte, charged with allowing five cows to wander at Barry's Bay. He pleaded that it was impossible for him to prevent his cattle straying, as he could not fence his back line owing to the Government not surveying his section. If he fenced hie land he might pull down the fence again. The Magistrate sympathised with him by fining him in the mitigated penalty of ss. and costs. Robert Stewart, charged with allowing one heifer to be at large in Barry's Bay: fined ss. and costs. J. Wardell, charged with allowing twc cows to wander at Head of the Bay ; fined ss. and costs. B. Shadbolt, allowing one heifer to wander at Head of the Bay; fined ss, and costs. E. Haines, charged with having five-calves at large on the Bth, 9th, and 10th inst. The usual plea of someone leaving the slip-rails down was offered. Fined ss. and costs on each of the three charges. _^__^_
