(to the editor of the akaroa mail)
! Sir, —We beg to return you our best thanks for the very complimentary paragraph which appeared in your issue of the 4th. inst., relative to our extra strong ale which you so justly compare with Bass's extra strong ale, or the strong Edinburgh ale. We feel that the encomiums you have passed thereon are not overdrawn, but well merited as they so entirely agree with different remarks made by connoisseurs and others who have tasted it, and we believe that it only requires to be known to be appreciated, and if only justice is done to it we feel satisfied that what you have stated must come to pass, viz., " That it must eventually supersede the imported article." All we want is fair play and no favor. With reference to the price of our extra strong ale, there is evidently a pisprint in your paragraph, as it states it is made much cheaper than the mild ales, whereas we think your intention must be, that, comparing it with Bass's extra ale or the strong Edinburgh ale, it is much cheaper.—We are, &c, E. HOOFER & CO.
