REGINA V.R.A. BUCHANAN.
(to the editor of the akaroa mail.)
Sir, —The jury retired to consider their verdict, and after a short absence returned into Court with a verdict of " Not Guilty," to which was added a rider, censuring the manner in which the business of the Magistrate's Court at Akaroa was conducted. There were other indictments, but they were not proceeded with, and the prisoner was discharged. Thus terminated the case. Now, Sir, I ask, are my fellowtownsmen going to pass by the above censure in silence (as I consider it a censure upon the community at large). Without a doubt, the state of things revealed at the Supreme Court, fully merited such a rebuke at the hands of the jury, and I would suggest that His Worship the Mayor be requested to call a public meeting, where such resolutions may be passed, and forwarded to the Minister of Justice, to remedy such a disgraceful state of affairs as formerly existed in the E.M. Court, Akaroa. Yours, &c, VIGILANS.
