LITTLE AKALOA LIBRARY.

The annual meeting of the subscribers to the Little Akaloa Public Library was held in the schoolroom on Tuesday, the 10th instant.

In the absence of the Chairman and vice, the Sceretary made a statement of the affairs of the institute. It appeared that there was a decrease in the number of members, there being now only twentyone.

The Treasurer, Miss M. Waghorn, shewed a balance in hand- of £16 11s. This sum is to be applied to the purchase of additional books, and includes £10 grant from Government. The following gentlemen were chosen to serve on the committee for the next year, viz., Messrs R. G. Rix, J. Speight, G. Bennett, A. Mclntosh, D. Waghorn, jun., A. Waghorn, jun., H. Bennett, and G. Ashton, and Miss M. Waghorn.

From the foregoing Mr. G. Bennett was elected chairman, Mr. A. Waghorn, vice, Miss Waghorn, treasurer, and Mr. Speight continued to act as librarian and secretary.

Before the committee separated, an inkstand, value seven shillings and sixpence, belonging to the library, but little used, was presented to Mr. Speight, as a token of recognition of his gratuitous services. The present was acknowledged in suitable terms.

The meeting adjourned till May 7th
