Major Atkinson and family left for Taranaki last night in the Hinemoa. The Premier will probably be absent from Wellington three or four weeks, and may address his constituents, but nothing is known at present. Christchurch, April 9. At the Supreme Court to-day, Hames, stealing cash box from Clarendon Hotel, was sentenced to seven years. Hester Knibbs, stealing post letters, three years ; Carson, charged with arson, pleaded not guilty ; Wademan, embezzlement, sentence deferred ; Jacobsen, formerly clerk in the National Bank, charged with embezzlement, was sentenced to one year. Stewart, for obtaining money under false pretences, from Mr. Ashton, Pigeon Bay, sentenced to two years ; Messiter, charged with stealing post letters, two years. Dunedin, April 5. At the Supreme Court, to-day, Alice Lavin, larceny, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, with hard labour; Walter Eogers, horse-stealiug, two years ; Charles Brodie Cooper, forgery, five years; William Crown, unmentionable offence, five years ; Walter Aylmer, larceny, two years ; Letitia Bourke was found guilty of burglary at Oamaru, and sentence deferred. A lad, twelve years of age, son of George Grant, accountant, was gored by a bullock this morning, while standing on the lawn at his father's house. The animal smashed through the fence and tossed the boy in the air, injuring him so much, that little hopes of his recovery are entertained.
