PIGEON BAY.

Annual Social Meeting,

The annual social meeting of the Presbyterian congregation, Pigeon Bay, took place in the schoolroom, Pigeon Bay, on Thursday evening, 22nd instant. The weather was all that could be desired, and although the busy grass seed season was scarceiyj .o\ T er, there was a very large gather iij The / which were loaded Avith £°°d were given and presided over by theTfolloAving ladies :—Mesdames T. 0. Hay, Gillespie, and Innes ; and the Misses M'Ka-, Marshall, Hay, White, and Pitcaithly. After full justice had been done to the good things provided, and the tables cleared, the Reverend Mr. Douglas took the chair, and the public meeting was opened by'the singing of the 100 th Psalm and prayer. Mr. Douglas then gave a brief report of his work during the past year, and afterAvards called on the secretary of the Financial Committee (Mr Pitcaithly) to read the financial report. This report, Avhich was a very careful and full one, stated that the income for the past year had been £131 145., being an increase of over £30 as "Compared with the year before. After paying all dues, there remained a balance of over £17 to be carried fonvard to next year's account. The report was considered highjy satisfactory, and Avas unanimously adopted. Thereafter Revs. M'Gregor, Elmslie, D. 0. Hampton and Gillies delivered eloquent and stirring addresses. The choir, presided over by Mr. Gates, sang several pieces of music with much taste. After the usual votes of thanks had been passed, the meeting, the best yet held, separated about 11 o'clock. Mr. William Innes gave in a verbal report for Head of the Bay district, which stated that the income for the past year had be-m a little over £31, being a decrease as compared with last year of about £17. Altogether there is much cause for encouragement and thankfulness, Avhen the Avidely scattered and sparsely peopled character of the various districts are considered ; for, as a rule, the people have heartily and liberally supported the cause of Christ.
