(prom times own corespondent.) New Plymouth, February 13. The third match was finished by two o'clock to-dry, and resulted in a victory for the All-England Eleven in one innings Avith one run to spare.
[From the Press Agency]. Auckland, February 13. In the case of Shera v. M'Arthur and Co., the plaintiff accepted £600. Mr. Walter's Hippocampus left in the Taupo for Dunedin. Since the Suwarrow Imbroglio Sterndale has been preparing to fit out a vessel for the island where treasures are reported
to have been concealed by the Spanish. A few days ago, Mr. W. J. Hunt, formerly a sharebroker and latterly of Napier, entered into negotiations for the purchase of the schooner Canterbury, on behalf of himself and Messrs Sterndale, Hill, Wilson, Mair and others, with the object of fitting out an expedition to seize Suwarrow. The vessel had taken in stores and was ready to clear at the Customs. Hunt allowed a portion of the purchase money to remain on mortgage. Disagreement arose about the insurance. To-day, Hunt went to the lawyer's office to see the deeds of the vessel and pocketed them. The Clerk pursued, a fight ensued, and Hunt was given into custody. An information will probably be laid against him. All the purchase money 'had been paid, but the lawyer held the deed till the insurance was obtained as guarantee for the mortgage. It is understood that Messrs Henderson and Macf arlane are preparing another expedition to hold Suwarrow, and that a fight is imminent. At the Waste Lands Board to-day it was decided to accede to the request of Mr. Broomhall for any surplus of available land. The report re the Vesey-Stewart's Katikati settlement showed that 17 out of 42 families failed to fulfil the contract. Mr. Stewart has requested 10,000 acres more at 15s. The Board decided not to sell under £1. Re the petition from the Thames for 10,000 acres for special settlement, the Board urged the Chief Commissioner to bring the matter under the notice of the Government. Nelson, February 13. The English cricket match will com mence to-morrow. Gbeymotjth, February 13. Killeen's Greymouth Hotel, and the store adjoining, were burned down this morning at about four o'clock. The buildings were insured in the South British for £500.
