Messrs. 11. Matson and Co. report on the live stock market, &c, for the weekending Friday, January 19, 1877:—At the market on Wednesday there was only a moderate attendance of buyers, harvest operations
requiring the attention of the public. 385 head of cattle, 3938 sheep, and 65 pigs were brought forward for the week's supply. Our entries comprised 125 head of cattle, 1061 sheep, and 49 pigs. We disposed of all our entries, with the exception of one line of cross-breds, at for cross-bred mutton, 9s, 9s Gd, to 10s 6d ; per head; fat merino ewes, ordinary, to 4s 9d per head ; two-tooth steers at 7s to 8s per head; snuthdowns at 10s. In cattle we sold 100 stores ,iit£6 10s per hcaVi; milch cows from £8 10s, £10, to £12 per head; the demand for young cattle is as brisk as ever. The abundance of feud at present in the paddocks, with every likelihood of a plentiful supply in the autumn, causes all lots that come forward to meet with spirited competition. In wool, sheepskins, hides, &c, the next public sales are fixed for Tuesday, 30th January. On Thursday, at the usual weekly sale, a fair supply came to hand, when best pelts made to Is lOd and Is lid each; second, Bd, lOd, to Is Id each; lambskins, Is 9d to 2s 9it each; hides, salted, 3_;d per lb; calf, 6d per lb. Rough fat, various.
