There is nothing of importance to note in grain and produce transactions during the week. Harvesting has commenced, and with a continuation of fine weather deliveries of the new grain will be pretty general within the next fortnight. We quote buyers' quotations in Christchurch -.—Wheat, nominal; oats, 2s 6d for old quality; barley, nominal; butter, 8d to ■Sid; cheese, 5Jd; rye grass, 3s 9d to 4s. Messrs. J. T. Ford and Co. report on the live stock market for the week ending Friday, January 12, as follows -.--At the Addington yard on Wednesday last, 6270 sheep, 225 head of cattle, and 46 pigs were "brought forward. The supply for the week was in excess of requirements, and although very few lots were turned out unsold, yet in most classes « slight reduction in prices had to be submitted to—sheep to Is per head, and fat cattle suffered a slight decline. Store cattle are still enquired for, our weekly supply not being at all adequate to the demand. Our entries for Wednesday last were on account of the Hon. E. W. Stafford, Messrs. Derritt, Gordon, Matthias, Htirse, White, Revell Bros., Haydoh, Tosswell, Rowe, Keith, junr., Hon. J. Hall, S. Garforth, and others, equal to 3300 sheep, 40 head of cattle, and 25 pigs. Mutton may be quoted at from l£d to lfd per lb; fat lambs, from 6s to 8s each; beef, at from 25s to 27s 6d per 100 lbs. Privately, during the week -ye have disposed of 4000 store cross-breds, on account of Messrs. Studholmc Bros., at 7s each ; and several lines on account of different owners, at above quotations; also, about 100 head of store cattle at from £5 17s 6d to £6 ss.
Messrs. H. Matson and Co. report on the live stock market for the week ending Fri--day, January 12—At Addington, 225 head of cattle, 6276 sheep, and 46 pigs, were penned for sale. There was a moderate attendance, and fair prices realised. Entrios comprised 143 head of cattle, 2224 .sheep, and 46 pigs, for Messrs. G. Buckley, W. Boag,\V. Henderson, W. A.Brown, Cunningham Bros., B. and P. Payne, Greaves, Pearson, Maddison, Jeffs, J. Weston, J. Sharp, J. J. M'Lelland, J. Manson, Lenney, Ferguson, J. Wright, J. Davis, M. Jones, K. Bennett, R. Tubman, W. B Andrews, Hayes, and others. Biddings were fairly brisk, and we cleared the whole of our entries. The principal lines sold were cross-bred fat, at 9s, 10s, to 10s 6d per head ; hoggets, to 10s 9d; merino ewes, in wool, to 5s 2d ; store cross-breds, 6s 9d to 8s 6d per head. In cattle we disposed of all our entries at full values. The demand for stores is still large, and for good healthy young cattle high values can be obtained. In pigs we cleared our entries at for large stores £1 10s; small, at 11s 6d. Outside we have sold 3000 merino ewes at 3s to 3s 9d, and 2000 wethers at 3s 9d to 4s 3d; also 1000 2-tooth cross-breds at 7s 3d per head. Wool, skins, hides, &c.—At our usual weekly sale a fair catalogue was offered,and all lots cleared; biddings came freely, and full prices were obtained. Best butchers' cross-breds, lid, la, to Is 3d each; the Longbeach rams' belts, 2s 6d each; lambskins, 2s to 2s 7d for good, and la 6d to Is 9d for inferior; woolly and station skins realised well; rough fat, 2|d to 2|d. Salted hides, 3£d per lb; calf, 6d per lb. In wool the market is firm, with an improved tendency. They also report having held their fortnightly sale of wool, at their Wool Stores, on Tuesday, January 9th. There was an average attendance of buyer*, and biddings were fairly brisk. A rise of £d to f d per lb. on ordinary descriptions, and per lb on choice clips was established.
