AKAROA AND WAINUI ROAD BOARD.

A meeting of the above Board was held in the Koad Board office, on Saturday last. Mr. Duxbury proposed,. and Mr. Shadbolt seconded—"That Mr. Piper be chairman." Mr. Piper proposed and Mr. Lelievre seconded —" That Mr. Duxbury be chairman." Mr. Duxbury declined the honour, considering it unnecessaryj to stereotype the composition of the Board from year to year. The original proposition of Mr. Duxbury was then put and carried. The past minutes were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Mr. Kenny's memo, was the first item considered. The Board having gone cuefully through the correspondence came to toe conclusion—"That in the event of the County Council adopting the Counties Act in its entirety, the whole of the correspondence be referred to that body." A letter was received from Mr. P. Kalfe, as Chairman of District School Committee, French Farm, calling the attention of the Board to the desirability of erecting a bridge over the French Farm creek. _ The Board concurred in the necessity of

erecting the bridge, and the clerk was instructed to prepare plans and specifications for the same. Great surprise was expressed at the position occupied by Mr. Ralfe, as Chairman of School Committee, his name not appearing on the Rate Roll. *& letter was read from Mr. James Bell, calling the attention of the Board to the Tekoa's Bay Road, stating that said road had become useless from the alteration in the line of road from French Farm to Wainui. The Board decided that Mr. Adams be empowered to. inspect the road in queetion, with the object of finding out as to whether the work was of sufficient public importance to warrant the expenditure. Letter was received from E. Buckley, offering his services as clerk, &c. The Board not having publicly called for offers of this discription, considered the application premature. TENDERS. The following tenders were received for metalling, forming, &c, School road : —Gunning & Co., one month, 4s per yard; T. S. Johnston, £10, lump sum, one month, accepted. Also beaching and culvert, McKay's road :—Vangiom, one month, £l 3 ; W. McKay (no time stated), £10. Mr. Houghton proposed and Mr. Lelievre seconded—"That the tender of Vangioni be accepted. Carried." JETTY ROAD, HEAD OF THE BAY. The pffers for this work were thrown out, owing to their being excessive. The clerk was instructed to call for fresh tenders. BATES. The f6Uowing letter was received from Mr. G. Armstrong:— Bth January, 1877* "The Chairman Akaroa and Wainui Road Board." Take notice, that it is my intention to appeal against certain rates, amounting to £9 7s 6d. Grounds of appeal—my not having exclusvie right to the land through non-survey. " Geo. Armstrong. Mr. Duxbdby called attention to the necessity of guarding against the encroachment of the sea on the road near Horse Shoe Gully, Robinson's Bay. The clerk was instructed to prepare jslans and specifications, and to call tenders for the work. LONG BAY AND LOWER PORTION OF OKAIN's BAY BOAD. a The Board deferred the consideration of these works until after the meeting of the County Council on the 18th inst. The following accounts were passed for payment:— £ s d J. Curtis, Onuka road ... 24 0 0 E. C. Latter, timber, &c... 4 3 6 The Board adjourned until Saturday, the 3rd of February.
