PIGEON BAY.

The school children attending the Pigeon Bay School had their annual treat on Tuesday, in a paddock kindly placed at the disposal of the School Committee, by Messrs. Hay Brothers. Tea and cakes in abundance were provided for all. The committee provided books, money, knives, balls, &c, as prizes for the several events, at the same time a careful'handicap was made in favour of the younger scholars, so that all had a chance of winning. ANNUAL SPORTS. The annual sports now are one of the institutions of the Bay, took place on the 29th ult; The Messrs Hay kindly finding a good course in one of their fields. Most of the events were well contested, and the weather was of ths right sort for out-door sports, details of which we furnish below. A pleasant day was brought to a fitting termination by a ball in the evening. Dancing was indulged in with great spirit in tile Messrs. Hay's woolshed, which was beautifully decorated for the occasion, the flags being lent by Capt. M'Leari of the s.s. Akaroa. The music was excellent —Mesdames Guthrie, T. 0. Hay, and the Misses •Hay-and Patterson very good naturedly, playing the most of the evening. Trotting Match, won by G. M'Kay's Punch ; Hurdle Race, won by T. 0.
