TO OUR READERS
We have to apologize to our numerous Subscribers for the delay which has occurred in getting out the first number of our paper. The cause is the many difficulties of one kind or other which have beset our undertaking, and we are not proud of the appearance of our achievement now it is accomplished. It would not interest to detail these various impediments, they are mostly incidental to ship-life, and unavoidable. We shall use our best efforts to continue it occasionally, but shall not pretend to issue the "Gazette" at any stated periods. We may here take the opportunity of stating that to the best of our knowledge, this is the third attempt only of the kind ever made.
