To the Editor of the Auckland Times. Sir, The kindness and humanity which has distinguished our fellow Co'onists both at Spdney, N.S. W,, and Port Nicholson, in sympathy sing with the distressicg situation ot the late residents at Russell, demands the grateful thanks of those unfortunate people. I therefore take the liberty throu h the medium of your paper, of expressing an anxious desire that a mee ing be caled to memorialize our friends who have with such promptitude hastened to relieve the distressed sufferers of the Bay. A Public Meeting was advertised (or Monday the 2S'th inst, —and addresses We e tirepared for our generous tellow colonists m Wellington and Sydney,—to thank them for the ra st > and urge them to 'uiure kindness in our pmergencies. The Meeting was only postponed because of the absence of fifty of the refugees from the. Bay, as volunteers returning t:> that place in the pending expedition.
