To the Editor of the Auckland Times . Dear Sir, — In reply to your note re ceived a few minutes since, requesting to he informed of the result of nry negotiation with the emigrants, I beg to inform you that nothing definitive has been done. They will only treat with persons who are married, and steady men, and in proof of their being so, it will be necessary they should produce a character from some respectable man of their being steady and industrious persons. The natives further 'stipulate that the family of any white per son desirous of taking up bis abode writ them, shall be in a state ot health, a d bee from any epidemic' disease. Any mechanic or labourer they may u> receive among them will be provided wall a comfortable native b use and a piece of ground, say one acre, for a garden or a larger space if the white man wishes if, and is disposed to cultivate it. He will be provided with provisions (pork and potatoes] in abundance for himself and his family, and in return will be expected by the natives to instruct them in whatever mechanical branch of trade he may profess, at the same time he will be expected to render his assistance to the general stock of usefulness. No limit with regard to time is wished to be imposed on his residence amongst them, and so long as he remains he will receive their protection and assistance. 1 hey have no objection to give a tew pair of fowls or ducks, or 4 a few pigs
and a oats, on condition of receiving one half of the increase. Jn conclusion, \ think that ten or 3 dozev families might be provided for in this way in the immediate neighbour hood. I remain, Dear Sir, Yours sincerely, E, MEURANT.
