Correspondents.

6S* Communications should be authenticated by the name and address of the writer, not necessarily for publication, but as a guarantee of good faith. Our columns are open to all correspondents ; but we neither endorse the opinions nor guarantee the facts of any. (To the Editor of tho Auckland Examiner). (To the Editor of the Auckland Examiner.) Sib, —Cn the 10th instant, in your remarks to correspondents, yon very properly give your opinion to “ Citizen,” but not quite strongly enough regarding the Government and llauger Briggs. You must “stir in the metier” being Lie only independent Editor we have at present in Auckland. No doubt Ranger Briggs obeyed and carried out his instructions by ordering the Ladies an! Gentlemen out of the domain ; but, sir, what right have the Ministers to order any person out of the domain ? Had 1 been one of the party alluded to, in place of seeing I,adies turned our, I should have felt inclined to have turned' out Ranger Briggs from the domain ; in vbich case 1 have no doubt he would have gone to his master for fresh orders. The domain is public propei t", and tho public should insist upon the right of making use of it. They have no objection when the New Government House is built, to see a portion fenced off for tho use of His Exceliencv ; but surelv not the most rural portion which can be of no the Governor. You mention that “ in April last Bls Excellency commando! it to be notified that all persons cutting or.otherwise injuring- the trees and shrubs in any part of the domain, or removing bush, wood, or timber therefrom will be prosecuted.” Would the Government like to find out who has for the last 15 years supplied either Ranger Briggs or Gardener Lynch with fire wood, besides what the latter has taken from the domain, or sent from the domain? But, sir, a little snug- and innocent party of pic nicians are hindered from picking up a few little rotton sticks to enable them to kindle a fire to provide “some warm water.” More next week from Yours obediently, Walter Brodie. December 22nd, 1857.
