The “Spray” brought? us copies of 'Nelson Examiner’ and also of a n -w paper called ' The Colonist.’ These papers contain a good deal of old news. Nelson diggings do not appear to be so attractive as formerly. Little is said about them in the ' Nelson Examiner’ and less in its rival the just-out-of-shell‘ Colonist,’ first number of which, it may be well to state, appeared on Friday, 23rd ult. From a hopefulspirited “leader” we take paragraphs following

“Wherever we can discover sincere patriotism we shall respect, it, and whenever we believe it to be wsely directed, we shall feel honored in being able to act with it. But self-seekers, whether found under the head of emolument seekers, or power seekers, or popularity seekers, or notoriety seekers, or revenge seekers, it shall always be our endeavour to unmask—to show them to the public in their naked deformity, and to impress upon our readers that men who seek public positions for any such unworthy purposes, are vilely betraying tbe public interest, and however plausible, or however talented they may be,are wholly unworthy of public confidence and support. “Our readers must not suppose that we have any intention or desire to shun all political controversy —to act as if all parties were equally right or equally wrong— or that we have planned out for our object and aim tbe impossible task of pleasing every one. But any preference that we may eventually give to any party or parties, must be the result, not of prejudice, but of a carefully formed conviction, that the objects sought, or likely to be accomplished by them, are such as would advance the interests of the Province, or contribute to tbe success, prosperity, and happiness of its inhabitants.”
