Poetry.
RECONCILED. We parted where the shadows crept Along the valley, damp and chill, And law the wailing breezes swept A ro and the solitary* hill; And Loi-e was beaten back by Pride With angry word and bitter speech. Till, pausing where the paths divide. We tamed in silence, each from each. Bare we been happj ? Was the thing Wa strove for really worth the strife ? What (pits could Scorn and Anger bring Save broken tows and severed life ?
Oh, sweet blue eyes with trouble dim! Oh, tender glance, half frank, half shy I Love's enp runs over at the brim, And shall we lightly put it by ? Dear, lay thine hand in mine once more, In perfect trust ef heart and mind; Turn to the happier days before, Leave we the darker hours behind. From Life's dark Past new hopes are born, The jarring discords slowly cease; And through an ever-brightening morn Sweet Lore walks hand in hand with Peace. R. S. W.
