The fertile and comparatively cheap lands of Manitoba, Atainiboia and Saskatchewan are attracting many settler*, now that they can be reached with ease and facilities exist for shipping their product* to market. Last year, report* the Chicago Tribune, 63,000,000 bushels of wh*at was raised in a region which was once looked on a*a part of the frozen north, •valuable- only for the fur-bearing animals it produced. There are million? of acre* of land not under cultivation' which can be made a* fruitful as those now being tilled. A majority of th* man who are now making home* for themselves in the Canadian northwest are American?. This doe* not alarm the Dominion authorities. They have no fear that ih? new-comers will be a disturbing polH- y ical element, or that they will at some future day agitate for the annexation to the United States of provinces in which they may be in the majority. There is no occasion for apprehensior on that score. . Americana have emigrated in numbers to Canada beforethis and have manifested ho inclination to Americanize their new *oun- *"• /
