Band Social.
One of the most largely-attended socials the Alexandra town hall has yet seen was held on Thursday evening last, in honor of the members of the local Brass Band who took part in the recent contest at Gore. The hall was prettily decorated for the occasion, and the committee had made most elaborate arrangements to ensure the enjoyment of all present. After an overture by the Orchestra, the Mayor (Mr Geo. Spencer) welcomed the Band on behalf of the townspeople, and he congratulated the members on the result of their efforts. The band was seriously handicapped owing to the fact that by reason of their occupations, the members could not often all get together for practice, and in view of the difficulties encountered, the Band's performance was a distinctly creditable one. Mr J. G. Oloss also complimented the Band on their performance, and he paid a tribute to the ability and patience of Bandmaster Bringans, who was largely responsible for bringing the Band' to such a high state of efficiency. Bandmaster Bringans suitably replied. Dancing was kept going merrily till about 3 o'clock next morning, and during the evening the following items were rendered:— Songs, Mrs Henderson, Mr Oalder, and Mr Murphy; duet, Mrs Henderson and Mr W Bringans ;<svord dance and highland fling, Mr J. Nicholson; selections, Alexandra Orchestra. All of the items were excellently rendered, and duly appreciated. Mr E. M. Bellamy, of the Bendigo Hotel, catered for the supper in his usual high-class ! style. At the final meeting of the committee of management jon Saturday night, hearty vote of thanks were passed to all the performers, and to Mis Burnside (pianist), Mr Briggs (who assisted with the music), Messrs Christie and Tait, M.O.'s, Mr P Campbell (doorkeeper), Mr F. Young, Mr Bellamy (caterer), and generally to all who assisted to make the social such a success.
After paying expenses the Committee donated £1 Is to the Dunstan Hospital,
