At the homecoming of the Alexandra Band from the Band Contest at Gore on Saturday evening last, a large crowd assembled opposite the coach office to welcome the boys with a cheer. The band left the coach at the Orderly Room, and to the lively strains of a quickstep, marched down the street to be dismissed. On finishing the quickstep, the men were, in the absence of His Wot ship the Mayor, addressed in a few welcoming words by Mr Gloss,; who had been requested to do so by leading citizens. Mr Closs said he assured the Band that their fellowtownsmen were pleased at the honourable position they had taken in the Test Selection. Though we could not say " see the conquering heroes come," yet we could say that they came pretty close to the conquering heroes; and I though defeated, they were not dis« graced.
