The rain during the week caused the rivers to rise somewhat, but not .-o
much as was expected. The height of
Molyneux last evening was slightly under the 6ft mark, with a downward tendency. The gearing for the top drive of the elevator of the Sandy Point dredge has arrived on the claim. No time will be lost in having it fitted up, and dredging is expected to be resumed shortly. The secretary of the Board of Examiners advertises in this issue that an examination of candidates for dredgemisters' certificates will be held at Greymouth and Dunedin on January 31st, 1905 An examination of candidates for mine-managers' and batterysuperintendents' c-rtificates will be held on January 24th, 1905, at places to be hereafter named.
The Enterprise Dredging Company are calling for tenders for the supply of coal.
The directors of the First Chance Sluicing Company (Bald Hill Flat) have declared a dividend of 6d per sh*re. For a fortnight's work, a return of 121oz 18iwts was recorded,
The Tinkers Sluicing Company, (Matakanui) washed up 2510zs for eight week's work The directors of the Undaunted Gold Mining Company (Matakanui) have declared a dividend of 5s per share. The New Royal Maori Co's dredge and claim was sold by auction in Dunedin on Monday, Mr'R. Gilkison being the purchaser at £IBBO. Mr Simonsen took charge of the Alexandra Lead dredge on Monday, and is awaiting a rise in the river to allow of the dredge being dropped down to the lower end of the claim: The following further dividends have been declared by dredging companies during the week: —Lady Roxburgh, Is per share ; Clyde 2s per share ; Unity Is per share. The Scandinavian Water Race Company, St Bathans, reports having washed up for a return of 1300oz. The company intends to appeal to the Privy Council over the aecent decision of the Appeal Court in the case between the company and Mr Ewing, and already steps have been taken in the matter. The Fourteen - Mile dredge had to stop at midnight on Tuesday, owing to the breaking of a piston ring. A new part has been telegraphed for, and the dredge will probably be at work again to-night (Thursday). The Manuherikia and Moa dredges are working steadily. Mr William R. Faithful, representative of the Rio Juan D'Oro Gold Dredging Company, Bolivia, left Dunedin,' for the company's claims on Tuesday last- He takes with him thirteen experienced dredgemen from Otago and the West Coast.
