Borough Councll.
The ordinary meeting of the Alexandra Borough Council was held on Monday evening, 3rd inst., when there were present —His Worship the Mayor (Mr Geo. Spencer), Ors Anderson, Schaamann, M'Knight, and Gregg. The minutes of the previous: meeting were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was read and approved. Inward correspondence was read and dealt with as follows: —The Wcrks Committee s report re commended that a total of Sll chains in various streets in the town be formed with the County grader, the cost being estimated at £65. The committee recommended that the old race leading to the Cemetery be repaired ; and also that Messrs Gunion, Wieper, Peady, and Kennedy be requested to remove their fences from the water-race reserve to allow of a road being opened, The report was adopted, and the recommendations agreed to. % » —From Mr A. Kennedy, requesting that a street lamp be erected at the, corner, of Rathkeale Street, as the rear of the Catholic Chapel. On the motion of Or Anderson, seconded by Or M'Knigh, the request was granted. —From the Secretary to the Treasurer, Wellington, stating the additional loan of £7OO for the construction of water-works had been paid to the Council's credit.—Received.
—From the secretary of St Aidan's Church, requesting the use of the Town Hall on the evenings pf Decern* ber 16th and 17th. Moved by Or Anderson, seconded vy Or Schammann—That the request be granted.—Carried. —From Mr A, Jopp, stating that he purposed taking down the fence along the Borough endowment, and asking if the oouncil would take it. at valuation. ''
On the motion of Or Schammann, seconded by Or M'Knight, it was resolved that Mr Jopp be informed that the council agreed to a* valuation of fence being taken. —From the. Paymaster-General, advising that the sum of 15s, goldfie'ds revenue for August had been remitted to the credit of the council's account, —From the secretary of the Alexandra Goal Mining Company, asking for a grant to assist in forming and maintaining the road leading to the company's mine, which was situated within the Borough. The letter pointed out that since January, 1900, the sum of .£ 1061 4s 8d had been paid in royalty to the Government. A letter was also read from the Minister of Mines, in reply to a communication from the town clerk, asking for a grant of .£l5O for this work. The Minister stated that information must be furnished as to whether the road was a public road before any money could be expended on it.
It was resolved—That the town clerk supply the information requested.
The statement of balances was read as follows:—-Or Waterworks Loan Account, £291; Or Interest Account £443 9s 5d ; Or Cemetery Account. £6 6s sd; Or Contractors Deposit Account, £2l 6s ; Or Library Account £6 Os 6d ; Dr General Account, £525 168 3d; .credit-balance at bank, £73 16s lOd. The following accounts were passed for payment:—J Young, £l7 6s 8d ; F. Young, £10; W. Theyers & Son, £2 18s 9d ; J Travis, £ll 8s ; Otago Daily Times, 13s; Vincent County (rates) £1 5s 2d ; J. R. Bartholomew, £l4 0s Id ; T Powlesland, £8 8s ; J. Braithwaite. £l4 17s 6d, A. & T. Burt 17s 6d ; H. Craig & Co, 8s 6d. The council then rose.
