THE GNOME AND THE FAY. A ?ncme cne day fell in love with a fay— A fay that was sweet and shy— And the fay was as pretty as you, ray dear, And the gnome as ugly as I. The gnome had a store of gold, galore, And cash at his banker's, too, But her sole wealth was her own sweet self—for she was as pcor as you. And he hud his wealth at her dainty feet, lea, all of hiß eilvir and gold, But his wealth she spurned, and away she tamed, As yoo might yet turn cold.
Then his heart wa9 Bore, for he loved her eo, Andhe said- as I might say—- ■ I am but an ugly gnome, I know While you are a lovely fay; But gnomes, like men, have hearts, I trow, And mine at your f6et I lay. Then she looked bim straight with her bright blue eyes— As you might look at me— And said—' Tour gold 1 do d spise; I scorn your silver bright, ; Bat a loving heart is a treaeure I pr«<*.
