The scene is the tramwey terminus at Blackfriars Bridge in the evening. A mob of people returning home from work are ft inning a tramoar. Among those who are successful ia getting a seat in the ear is a pale, haggard-faced Israelite. In bandies a big hnlk of a navvy, who, without as much as a ' by-your-leave.' flops himself down agaitJßt the Jew and tries to wedge himself into the seat by shouldering him along. The Jew looks daggers at the navvy. The latter, returning the scowl, grunts fiercely : ' Wot's the matter with yer fice P Yon look as if you was goia' to swallow me.' Swiftly comes the retort from the Jaw: ' No, my triendt; my religion forbids.'
