The newly-opened World's Fair at St. Louis is undoubtedly on the grand* iofle scale to dear to Americans. Enough has been said to demonstrate that the Americans have achieved a "tall" thing onee more, and have not hesitated to spend 80,000,000 of dollars on it, Internationally, the St. Louis Exhibition is wall supported, Fifty foreign governments have provided shows, and 10 of them are specially represented by national p mlions.

Finally, the exhibition is intended to commemorate the purchase from France by the United States of a region of 1,000,000 square miles, now divide) into 14 flourishing states and territories. The purchase was affected at the price of 15 millions of dollars, and the bargain was excellent. As, however, it was signed and sealed in 1803, the present centenary commemoration is a year too late.
