Obituary.

The Daily Times' Johannesburg correspondent records the death of Miss Nora Grindley, eldest daughter of Mr John Grindley, which sad event occurred on Tuesday 14th inst. at her parents residence. The Grindley family have had a woeful time of it since coming to Johannesburg. Shortly after reaching here the two younger girls were taken ill with enteric, The mother was then stricken down, and for months her life was almost despaired of. The bead of the house was not spared, having been laid up for weeks. At this time Miss Grindley was the main stay of tbe family.

It is with much regret that we have to record the death of Mr W M'Leod, which happened at Alexandra on Saturday night last. The deceased gentleman, who had for some time past been a resident in the Lake Wanaka district, came to Alexandra about ten days ago, it being his intention to take a trip to Australia for the benefit of his health ; but the illness from which he was suffering had got too great a hold on his system, and he wae obliged to take to his bed. All that medical skill and careful nursing could do was unavailing, and the sufferer passed away, as'previously stated, on Saturday night. The deceased gentlemen was well and favourably known throughout Central Ofcago. He was for many years attached to the police force, and was for some considerable time in charge of the Alexandra station \ subsequently being promoted to the rank of sergeant in charge of the Olyde station, which post be creditably occupied for a number of years. The deceased gentlemen leaves a widow (the daughter ef lira Telford, of Alexandra) to mourn his loss, The funeral l took place on Tuesday, and was. largely attended, many from distant parts of the district being present, Messrs O Spencer, J Rivers, W They* oiß, and W acted aa pall-beat - era. The funeral service was impressively conducted by the Rev J Mackie.
