On Saturday e»ening, 28th ult, Mr S CbLmeron, late dredgemaster of the Perseverance C^paoy t was. met at the Caledonian Hotel by he was made the recipient of a handsome travelling bag as a token of the esteem in which he was held in the tows. The Mayor of Alexandra presided, and, in making the presentation, he referred in eulogistic terms to Mr Cameron's worth as a oitiien, and to his ability as a dndgeroastef. Daring Mr Cameron's fourteen years' service with the Perseverance Company, he (the speaker) could say that that gentleman had discharged his duties with credit to himself and benefit to his employers; and be was sore be would act in a like manner in any similar position in which he might be placed.. In speaking to the toast 'of " The Guest," the following dredgemasters bora testimony to ill .aiueron's Integrity and ability as a ><lredge manager :—Messrs W Nicholson (Moa), Dewar (bailors Bend), M'Gregor (Knterprise), W Bringans (Golden Beach), C Curno (loreka; No 2), Williamson (Morning Star), and Soot* (Kgapara), Messrs J B Thompson, J Pattison, 0 Baker, K Borthwick. and J D Buchanan also spoke endors mg the remarks of the previous speakers Mr Cameron suitably responded, thanking those present for their- kind expressions of esteem and for their handsome present; A pleasing function w?s brought to.a close by the singing of '! Auld Lang Byn».' la "evening qrtjp preyiously, Mr Cameron was presented with with a Gold Albert and Maltese Cross (suitably inscribed) by the sew of the Perseverance dredge -The prelentation was made by Mr K Bothwick, who aid a hiiih tribute to Mr Cameron's skill as k dredgemaster, and to the esteem in whioh he was heid by those working under him.
