MINING NEWS.

The height of the river at the Alex" andra bridge last evening was 4ft above the * normal'' markj with a downward tendency. The work cf erecting a silt wheel on the Molyneux Hydrauiiu has been completed. In a trial run the new wheel worked splendidly, and will very materially facilitate dredging operations in the fttture. The dredge is at present awaiting a supply of water' from the Borough race, to raise the level of the water in the paddock. The Sailors Bend dredge had to stop about 8 o'clock yesterday morning in consequence of a casting connected with the feed-pump breaking. It is uncertain wnen the dredge will be able to resume work, as a new part may have to be ordered from Dunadin. We learn that as a result of the recent accident at the Bendigo dredge, about 20 bucket have been silted up. Buckets to replace those lost are being borrowed from the Davis Bend dredge, and the Bendigo will. resume opera* tions as soon as these are placed in position. It in possible the lost buckets may be recovered, later on, by dredging. The Enterprise No 2 is at present undergoing a general overhaul. The sensation of the week was the splendid return from the Fourteenmile dredge, which is all the more encouraging to shareholders from the fact that it is the first return -from this dredge for the season. ■■■■'■, The machine is working a abort below the upper boundary, near, where! the Golden River dredge obtained a return of SOGoz, and further big; returns from the Four|een-mile may be expected.-rrSince the ifpiregoing wasin type; we learn- that the d|redg© had to stop yearly on morning, owing to thO breakage of a small part of the winch engine. A new part was turned at the Alexandra Foundry, and it was expected that dredging would' be resumed last evening.- ' The N. Zi Mttes Record " says4~ Wolfram, scheeftte, and molybdenum ors are at present being sought after. A communication has been received from Messrs Seegner, Langguth, anid Co., Auckland, stating that they are buyers of these ores, but find some difficulty in securing supplies, although they... have orders in hand to be executed.' 7 Wolfram and echeeliW have been found in various parts oi the South Island, and. molybdenum was discovered at the Thames. Messrs Wand G Donaldsoh, of Macrae's,' Otago, ; are however, the only persons who mine for scheelite, which is worked as a by-product of their gold-mine. The other minerals are no so far mined for in this colony.—Scheelite also occurs at Glenorchy ; at the Alta Reef Bendigo; and at the Rock and Pillar and Lainmerlaw Ranges. The local coal-pit proprietors met the representative of the Coal Miners Union on Tuesday evening, when a further agreement was entered into for 12 months, the term of the Arbitration Court's award having expired. At an extraordinary general meeting of the Perseverance Dredging Company, held at Alexandra on the 11th inst,, Mr Geo. Spencer presiding, a motion that tne company be wound up voluntary, and that a liquidator be appointed, was carried. Messrs L. Ryan, of Alexandra, and H W Beid of Diinsdin, were proposed for the

[office of liquidator, and ; ing taken, the chairman declared Mr Ryan duly elected te fill the position. The liquidator's fee was fixed at JJ2S. The date of the confirming meeting was fixed for the 28th; inst, Mr D Murray has .been appointed drfldgemaster of the Golden River Go's dredge.The Manuherikia Dredging Oom» pany has declared a dividend of 3s per share. . ;
