Borough Council.

The ordinary meeting of the Alexandra Borough Council was held on Monday evening last, whan there weie present:—His Worship the . Mayor 2fr Geo. Spencer), Ore • Anderson, yan, Laidlaw, Buchanan, Mcßnight, Gregg, and McGregor, The minutes of the previous ordinary and special meetings were read ana confirmed. - -

Cr MoKnight made the necessary statutory declaration 'and took his sen*.

Crs Gregg and McGregor -made the declarations and took tbtir seats at the special meeting hold, on tbsrllthlnst. The, outward correspondence was read and approved. On the motion of Or Gregg, seconded byjGr Buchanan, the resolution levying rates was passed; and Ors Gregg and Anderson were appointed to sign the rate book. ' The inward correspondence was read and dealt with as follows: .; From tfce Alexandra Lead Dredging Company, offering the Council Ids per head per week for six heads of water. On *te motion of Or Laidlaw, seconded by Or Gregg, it was resolved, that the Alexandra Lead Company be informed that the Council cannot see its way to lease water as suggested, but will be prepared to let the race with all responsibility. A fetter was read from the Alezan* dra Ooal Company, asking that the road leading past Mr Brown's residence to the coalpit be repaired. , Cr Ryan moved and Or Gregg seoonded—That councillors inspect the road referred to. As an amendment, Or Laidlaw moved and Or Anderson seconded—That the Alexandra Ooal Oompany be informed that the Ooanoil cannot see its way clear to repair the road, having already made a sew road for the coal traffic.

On being put to the meeting, the amendment was declared carried.

TheMolyneux Hydraulic. Company wrote, asking that a supply of water be delivered as soon as possible, ' On the motion of Cr Boch&nan, seconded by Or Laidlaw, it was re« solved that the Molyneux Hydraulic Company be informed that the Council are taking all the steps possible to bring in the water, and will deliver the stipulated quantity as soon as same j fa available,

The OUgp Central Railway Leaguewrote asking the Council's assistance in obtaining exhibits for the coming Winter Show, to be held on the Ist of June.

It was resolved that the Mayor and Or Gregg be asked to take in hand the work of collecting exhibits of produce A circular was read from the Municipal Association of New Zealand giving a list of subjects to be discussed at the Conference of Delegates to be held in Wellington on July 18th. It was resolved that Mr Jas. Bennet M.H.R, be asked to represent the Council at the conference, From the Paymaster-general, advising that the sum of . £l3 4s 4d, goldfields revenue, had been remitted to the credit of the Borough.—Received.

It was revolved that; application be made to have the town belt vested in the Borough, and that an objection be lodged to Mr A. Ash worth's .application to purchase land thereon. A request from the Caledonian Society for the free use of hall for rehearsals for their forthcoming social was granted.

The statement of balances showed a total debit balance at bank of £690 Is W.
